im worried bout my hamster is it true tat cotton swabin his butt will prevent weat tail?
my hamsters name is goofy and im worried about wet tail i got him yesterday and it says usually get it on the first week hes a golden hamster my friends told me that by taking a cotton swab and gently cleaning off his butt it will prevent it is it true if not what precautions should i make ????
also i only plan on cleaning his cage once a week should i do it more often ????
Cotton swabs won't prevent Wet Tail.
You should keep a blanket over the hamster cage for at least 2 days, and don't handle the hamster for at least 7 days. Only go in the cage to change food/water. This gives it the appropriate time to get used to the new home and become accustomed. If you handle the hamster within those 7 days, you run the risk of wet tail. They need time to warm up and be to themselves.
