how do you use tyrolean in a hand operated machine also how to prepare first and consistancy of mix please?
There is no straightforward answer to this, much depends on the surface to which the Tyrolean is being applied. If the surface is clean block or brickwork then the surface needs to be rendered flat with a mixture of waterproofer in the render. Once this has dried mix some Tyrolean with water to a consistency of emulsion paint and apply by brush over the area to be treated, this will cover any misses when applying by machine. When this has dried mix Tyroeal with water to a sloppy mix, similar to a thick emulsion paint and pour into machine and experiment on a piece of board or similar. Turn the handle on the side of the machine so that the wire brush inside flicks out the mix. There is usually a handle on the side to adjust the size of the 'blobs' leaving the machine, move the machine up and down and side to side whilst turning the handle. Do not expect to cover the wall area in one pass, move across and then return to the areas you have done when the material starts to dry. This is not an easy task to undertake, practise first. Tyrolean is quite expensive, you can get the same effect for practising by mixing 4 parts sand to 2 parts cement to 1 part lime.
If you are seeking to Tyrolean an area which has been painted or is not flat then you have to do extra preparation work, Tyrolean will not for instance cover joints in block or brickwork. If you are trying to cover a painted surface then the Tyrolean is only as strong as the paint to which it is being applied. Good luck
