Last week I had a lovely cozy afternoon with a friend. She was interested in
learning how to make Crochet Flowers and so that's what we did!
I made a pot of fresh mint tea, got out the biscotti and we dived into my
stash! That was a scary moment, how on earth did I end up with soooo much
yarn?
We decided to go the intuitive path and not count the stitches too much so you
can see that our flowers are not exactly perfect. But we did cover the names
of the stitches and got through the basics:
chain
single crochet
half double crochet
double crochet
triple crochet
That's quite a lot for only a couple of hours work. My flower is the orange
one and the pinky peach one my friend made is now proudly attached to her
phone, it's a handy screen wipe!

Crochet: How to slip stitch into a slip stitch?
I know how to do most of the crochet basics, and I'm practicing slip stitch. However, I am working on a pattern that calls for several rows of slip stitches on top of each other. My question is: when you are working the second row of slip stitch (directly on top of a row of slip stitch), are you supposed to pick up both threads of the stitch or just one?
Further questions... if just one, then which one? Does it matter? Does picking up one vs picking up both make the pattern look different?

Both loops.
Picking up the back one will create a horizontal bar pattern. Structurally it will be pretty much the same so this is just a cosmetic difference.
Picking up the front loop will make the horizontal bar appear on the reverse side.
But while you're playing around with it, you should give all three options a try and see what you think of the effects.
