More evidence of how much progress has been made in Afghanistan after a decade
of U.S. fighting there surfaced Wednesday:
> U.S. and NATO soldiers have been ordered to take extraordinary precautions
against being shot by Afghan troops, including designating “guardian angels”
to keep watch at joint bases around the clock, according to a senior military
official.

What stitch makes an interesting pattern for a crocheted Christmas afghan?
I am working on an afghan for my daughter for Christmas, and want something a little different for its pattern. I have worked many afghans in granny square pattern, but I am thinking of maybe using an alternating Shell Stitch and double crochet in rows, with colors green and white. I am undecided though, and would love to hear of any interesting Afghan Patterns that have made an eye-catching impression. I will consider all suggestions, and thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
The shell stitch is easy, dense (so it's warm), and very dramatic done in just 2 colors, when you alternate colors each row. I made one in green and cream, and on one side it looked green with a little cream, and the other was cream with a little green - VERY effective and VERY easy. It's wonderful done in your choice of any 2 Christmas colors.
